menopause…its a shit show
i have no recollection of ever being warned about this inevitable phase of life...menopause. we should have been warned. dry skin, dry hair, brittle nails, (dry everything), weight gain, sleepless nights, incontinence, mood swings, and migraines. with all these issues, there has to be a care plan...how else will we survive? let’s talk about self-care during menopause.
my only qualification in writing this self-care and menopause post is experience.
dry skin and hair
one thing that happened to me early was developing a highly sensitive sense of smell. many fragrances started to smell like "goat’s pee" to me...strangely, only women’s fragrances, not men’s aftershaves. this led me to essential oils and “naked,” fragrance-free products, which have been my true saviors in my personal self-care and menopause plan.
raw body oil
there are body oils for every part of your body. menopause often means dry skin, and body oils are the perfect natural skin elixir. baths are the best way to introduce oils onto your skin. your skin will feel its absolute best after a bath with black lava bath salts and a few extra pumps of oil. immerse your head in the bath and let the oil seep into your scalp. when a bath isn’t an option, apply oils to wet skin after a shower, then pat dry with a towel.
body oils have been used for centuries as a treatment and preventative measure for dry skin. why do we still prefer them over modern creams? because they’re closer to your natural skin oils than any laboratory-produced products.
weight gain
menopause means your metabolism has hit ground zero. exercise and diet have always been, and will always be, the only controls we have over our weight. we are what we eat (and drink). for many of us, weight control becomes all-consuming. what worked for years may no longer be effective, and the weight keeps piling on. remember to be kind to yourself. if you’re short on time, try using weekends to prepare meals for the week...it’ll help you eat well and perhaps save you money.
mood swings
avoiding high-stress situations helps control mood swings. when we’re rushed or feel pressured, our worst selves often come out. identifying and understanding your triggers can help you manage these situations. for example, if running late is a trigger, try resetting your mind to accept that being late isn’t the end of the world.
de-stress roll-on
our de-stress roll-on is a natural product created with nature’s most potent calming blend of 100% pure essential oils. it’s a natural way to relieve stress, designed to calm and relax the mind. made with a powerful combination of rosalina, bergamot, and rose geranium essential oils, it’s the perfect companion for managing stress.
sleep
sleep is everything. what we do during the day affects how we sleep at night. staying active and engaged is crucial. this can be as simple as having regular conversations with a friend or loved one. as we age, our activity levels vary, but what’s important is that we keep moving and challenging ourselves within our abilities.
a warm shower or bath before bed signals your mind and body that it’s time to unwind. keep a bottle of sleep pillow spray next to your bed and use it liberally around the room before settling in with a good book and drifting off to sleep.
migraines and headaches
migraines and headaches are often symptoms of hormone imbalances. menopause occurs as estrogen and progesterone levels decrease, with a significant drop in estrogen causing most of the symptoms. our potent oil blend is designed to provide drug-free migraine relief using a powerful combination of peppermint, blue gum eucalyptus, and rosalina essential oils.
take care,
